Llívia is a Spanish municipality that is part of the province of Girona and the Comarca of Lower Cerdanya, landlocked within the French department of the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Particularity of the territory dating from 1659 and the Treaty of the Pyrenees, this Spanish territory of approximately 13 square kilometres is landlocked within the French department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. Llivia was originally coveted by both French and Spanish crowns.

It is a nice stopover to discover a true South Catalan lifestyle and architecture.

Llívia is located on a high plain on the southern slope of the Pyrenees mountain range. The altitude of the territory varies from approximately 1,200 m at the edge of the Segre to 1,578 m at the Pic des Mauroux in the north.

The territory of Llívia takes the shape of a thick “L”, covering an area of 12.83 square kilometres; it gathered 1,589 inhabitants in 2009 divided into three agglomerations:

  • The main town of Llívia in the centre of the enclave on the banks of the Segre and opposite the French town of Estavar
  • The hamlet of Cereja to the north;
  • The hamlet of Gorguja to the south-east, bathed by a small tributary of the Segre River.
